Promote Your Marathon
First and foremost, contact Kreyg D at Kreyg@Kreyg.com and tell him about your marathon. Be sure to give me as many details as possible including but not limited to: names of the players, games being played, website/stream links, dates, times, and projected duration of the marathon, and whether or not it's for charity. This notification and information allows me to list your marathon on GameMarathons.com with the most accurate information without unnecessary delay. Every day on the site means more people will have seen it which means more people will come to watch your marathon, so it's important to be listed as soon as possible.

Create a schedule for your event on whatever streaming site you use well before it occurs. This helps anyone who stumbles on your stream page before the event to know exactly when your marathon will start. Submit your event to Ustream or BlogTV to see if they're interested in featuring it, though don't submit it until you've got a professional looking stream site or website and you're sure you can pull the event off. This should get it at least listed on the Ustream or BlogTV homepage for some period of time.

Get involved in social bookmarking sites such as Digg.com, Reddit.com, Fark.com, etc. prior to your event. BlogTV also by design allows you to build a social network on their site, so be sure to explore that. If you can get a solid network of friends on these it can help promote your event. Embed widgets for these sites into any page where you embed your feed.

Send the event to your friends on Facebook, MySpace, etc. Don't do this too far ahead of the start of the event though. The last thing you want is for people to come to your site and have nothing to see, but it's still worth building up a bit of hype just before your event starts.

Submit a press release. There are free sites (www.prlog.org) which allow you to send out press releases. You can then send these press releases to blogs and sites you read and they may get picked up by news sites. You can also send this to your local newspaper or TV station who drink up wacky stories like this, especially if you mention that it's for charity.

Post about your event on forums and message boards you read. But DON'T SPAM and make sure the community doesn't look down on outsite links being advertised. To put it simply, tell everyone and every website about what you plan on doing and even if a small fraction link to your marathon or view it, you'll have a respectable number of viewers come live-time.
